Adding a heartworm preventative to your dog’s treatment regime is essential for a happy and healthy pet. Sentinel Flavor Tabs and Heartgard Plus chewables are two such preventatives, so what’s the difference?
Both of these popular products are fast-acting monthly treatments that prevent heartworm, roundworms and hookworms in dogs.
Sentinel Flavor Tabs also prevent whipworms, and help to control flea infestations by preventing flea eggs from developing. However, they do not kill adult fleas.
Sentinel Flavor Tabs may be given to dogs and puppies as young as 4 weeks old, with a minimum body weight of 2lbs (0.9kg).Heartgard Plusmay be given to dogs from 6 weeks of age, with no weight requirements.
Both products have been evaluated as safe for use with pregnant and nursing dogs.
Top tip: Once pets develop heartworm it can be very hard to treat, so prevention is always better than cure. Compare the major brands of heartworm preventatives.
